NewLimit has created a screening platform to identify and test combinations of transcription factors - proteins that activate various genes - for liver cell rejuvenation. The company claims to have already identified at least ten such proteins in the form of mRNA within a lipid nanoparticle. Once delivered to the liver, this mRNA can be read by the cellular machinery and converted into functional proteins that help reset the organ's age. NewLimit's lead liver combination has proven effective in preclinical models, demonstrating the ability to enhance regenerative capacity in aged livers. The candidate is also able to increase alcohol tolerance in aged mice, making them more like young mice. NewLimit now plans to begin Phase I clinical trials.
